Day two at Sail Brisbane continues with perfect conditions

Sail Brisbane - Day two at Sail Brisbane continues with perfect conditions
BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA-(1-12-2003) Perfect sailing conditions have greeted the Sail Brisbane contestants for the start of the summer sailing season down under. It was a beautiful Sunday and perfect today with good weather forecast for the next two days.

International competitors from Ireland, Singapore and Austria are relishing the great conditions and hospitality being extended to them by the Queensland and Australian sailors.

The fleets have all been highly competitive with some great competition in the 420s, 470 women and the radial classes.

In the 470 men's fleet the competition for second is between the young guns with Mathew Belcher and new crew Nick Behrens showing some early promise along with the world youth Champions Nathan Outerridge and Auden Menzies. With both the Canadian and Irish teams keeping them honest it has led to very interesting racing. The Australian champions Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page have settled into great rhythm following their first race when they returned to the start following an individual recall.

In the 420 fleet former Sabot champion Phoebe Smith and crew Julia Patterson are having a great regatta and lead from North Queensland entrant Tom Barker.

Olympic Gold Medallists Jenny Armstrong and Belinda Stowell are leading the 470 women despite an OCS in race 2 and seem to be enjoying the 28 degree weather and 10-12 knot breezes.

Brendan Casey has shown the fleet a clean pair of heels although he has been accompanied by Andrew Schmidt who has shown marked improvement over recent months. In the radial fleet it is too soon to pick a winner with five sailors providing tight finishes for those on the start boat.
